SEO for Construction Companies: A Plain-English Guide

SEO is not a dark art. For a construction business it comes down to three things: being clear about what you do, being clear about where you do it, and giving Google evidence you exist.

Start with one page per service you want more of

A single page listing twelve services tells Google very little. A page about extensions, another about loft conversions and another about renovations gives each one a chance to rank. Write them for the customer, not the search engine, and include the questions you get asked on every survey.

Your Google Business Profile does most of the local work

For anything typed with 'near me' attached, the map results sit above the website results. A complete profile with the right categories, real job photographs and steady reviews is usually the fastest improvement available to a construction company.

Evidence beats keywords

Google is trying to work out whether you are a real business doing real work. Project write-ups with your own photographs, named towns you actually cover, and consistent contact details across the web do more than stuffing phrases into paragraphs.

Give it months, not weeks

Local search improvements typically build over several months. Anyone promising the top of Google in a fortnight is either paying for adverts or guessing. Advertising is the sensible bridge while the organic side matures.
